Community Development Services

The Arc has found that being given the opportunity to direct your own life and make your own choices improves confidence and self-worth. This confidence empowers you to live out your life the way you wish and pursue your dreams. When enriched with community participation and acceptance, you can become an active member in your community.

Are you looking to enhance your skills and increase your knowledge about life, safety, and independence? Community Development Services (CDS) is a small group service geared toward exploring and learning about community living. With goals of living an independent life, learning specific topics of life skills will help guide those who participate in the service to make informed decisions as an adult.

Our Community Development Services provide individualized supports for people involved in integrated community settings. These services are meant to foster community connections, social skills, and improve quality of life.

Community Development Services explore safety skills that help those supported navigate safely through their community. The community-based service ventures into important landmarks in the community. A variety of skills training takes place, including:

  • Travel Training – CDS focuses on how to use transportation options safely and responsibly. We provide training to find independent means to get to and from places in the community.
  • Skills for Independence – CDS helps people gain employment skills, such as time management and helpful strategies for completing work.
  • Safety Skills – In CDS, we explore safety skills that help people navigate safely through their community. Our community-based service ventures into important landmarks in the community.
