Although attitudes about people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities have improved over the years, ignorance, misconceptions and prejudice still exist. People with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities have become their own advocates, organizing and speaking before local groups and elected officials, even testifying at hearings for more funding for programs and services.
The Arc has a very active Governmental Affairs Committee, which meets monthly. If you are interested in serving on this committee, contact Executive Director Katie Collins-Ihrke by phone (240) 213-6697 or email.
