Advocate
Although attitudes about people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities have improved over the years, ignorance, misconceptions and prejudice still exist. People with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities have become their own advocates, organizing and speaking before local groups and elected officials, even testifying at hearings for more funding for programs and services.
Governmental Affairs
The Arc has a very active Governmental Affairs Committee, which meets monthly. If you are interested in serving on this committee, contact Executive Director Katie Collins-Ihrke by phone (240) 213-6697 or email. People Power of Howard County
People Power is a group of advocates with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities who use their voices to be heard and recognized. People Power meets the THIRD Monday of the month from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., via Zoom. For more information, contact email Jill Berry.
