Events: Greenfield Award
Recognizing compassionate leadership
The Arc of Howard County established the Greenfield Compassionate Leadership Award event in recognition of a long time supporter and philanthropist, Jim Greenfield. In 2008, the first annual Award for Compassionate Leadership was given to Jim Greenfield himself. In subsequent years, the award recognizes others in the community who share Jim’s values and willingness to help others. The honorees of the 2010 Greenfield Compassionate Leadership Award are Pam and Guy Guzzone. The Guzzones have been deeply involved in community life for years.

Pam has been employed at NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center since 1989 and is currently a senior organizational and leadership development program manager. She has served on the board of the Domestic Violence Center of Howard County, volunteers as an Executive Coach for Leadership Howard County’s Leadership Essentials program, is a member of the Howard County Public School System’s District Planning Team, is active in the Bollman Bridge Elementary School PTA and is a member of the Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County.
Before his election to the House of Delegates, Guy Guzzone represented District 3 on the Howard County Council. He began his local political career in 1991 as a Special Assistant to then County Council member Shane E. Pendergrass and later became her Legislative Assistant. He was elected to the County Council in 1998.
Both have been volunteers at The Arc of Howard County for nearly 10 years, assisting with the Chocolate Ball, the Columbia and Iron Girl Triathlons and other projects.
“Guy and Pam believe in the concept of full inclusion for those with disabilities and are committed to the idea that they should have the same opportunities we all have,” says Kari Ebeling, The Arc’s Director of Resource Development.
“They’re being honored as a couple this year in recognition of their ongoing commitment to The Arc and disability issues. They do not have a child or family member with a disability. Their deep commitment to The Arc is based on their intrinsic belief that those with disabilities should be treated fairly. Without a doubt, Guy has been supportive of that on both a county and state level.”
